What is Hi Fi

Hi Fi is for those of us with a passion for music. When were you last excited by a piece of music? If it was at a live concert, on the radio, or at a friends house doesn’t matter, the fact is that it excited you. Music has this ability to excite or connect in a way that nothing else quite can. It’s really just bits of data that’s recorded and decoded during replay, but it’s also much more than that. It’s the way that we interact that makes it personal. It’s the appreciation of beauty, like watching a beautiful sunset, admiring a work of art, listening to the waves on the sea shore. Quite simply it’s what grips you or evokes an emotional response to the beauty of music. It’s impossible to quantify, just a sheer pleasure to experience. The Greek philosopher Plato once said that ‘music has a direct effect on the soul’.

It is the pursuit of this intangible pleasure that we seek with Hi Fi. We’re not just satisfied with hearing something, we want to experience it. It is this difference that separates hearing from feeling the emotion.

The ability to experience pleasure from listening to music appears to be linked with the quality of reproduction. This in turn is linked with the ability to hear more of the music in greater detail. It is this pursuit of excellence that drives the quest for Hi Fi, to make the experience of music exhilarating!
